The village resort of Les Gets is part of the vast Portes du Soleil ski area, which links Morzine and Avoriaz, among others. Nestled at an altitude of 1,172 meters, it can be reached from Thonon, via the "Route des Grandes Alpes", or from Cluses (via Taninges). Its name, "Gitte" or "giette" in Savoyard dialect, alludes to the rapid descent of the wood used in the past. Firs and spruces were used to build homes and carve everyday tools. Despite its evolution, the village has retained its natural charm. As a tourist destination, it is very lively in summer and winter.
