At the foot of the Bauges massif, Giez is a village in the extended territory in the Faverges valley. In the medieval historic heart, located in the hamlet of Old Giez, near the Saint-Barthélemy church of Sardinia, the strong house of Gy - enlarged in the sixteenth century and with a farm in 1860. This private castle belongs to the Chevron Villette family since 1204 - Humbert de Chevron married the first honeymoon Beatrix then daughter of the Lord of Giez, then Vullierm de Villette. The farm, restored from 2005 to 2011, is visited. The municipality also had several mills that became sawmills and, in the nineteenth century, a forged fork, the Royal Factories - using the silvicultural resources of the territory of Giez to exploit the iron of the quarries surrounding the area. It was subsequently transformed into a textile factory and then a silk factory. Since the end of the twentieth century, the building has become the club-house of a 18-hole golf course, deployed between mountain and valley. The town hall and school and a chapel are located on the hamlet of Saint-Gingolf. The village also has protected natural areas including the Giez marshes.
