Faucigny belongs to the community of communes of the Four Rivers, which includes eleven villages. This charming village of 600 inhabitants has given its name to a whole province! Guy de Faucigny, who became bishop in 1078, founded several priories here, including that of Chamonix (1090) and Abondance (1108). This family was one of the most illustrious of the region in the Middle Ages. Of its prestigious past, the village only retains the ruins of the castle of the Sires de Faucigny (11th century) built on a rocky promontory overlooking the Arve. The site, well laid out, is an excellent viewpoint. Also worth seeing is the Museum of Women's Ornaments.
