At the dawn of the French Revolution, in 1789, Evian's reputation hardly extended beyond the regional borders. But a marquis from Auvergne who was passing by tasted the water of a fountain that he found "light and well passing". Suffering from kidney and liver problems, the Marquis of Lessert continued his water treatment and saw his health improve. This fountain was located on the property of a certain Mr. Cachat whose name would become famous throughout the world! Evian is still a seaside resort where it is good to bask on the many beaches and swim in the lake. The thermal baths welcome many curists who enjoy the alpine air.
