Travel Guide Contamine-Sur-Arve

Situated on the right bank of the Arve, easily accessible by the Autoroute Blanche, the commune of Contamine-sur-Arve seems to stretch out on the slopes of the Arve. This impression is confirmed by the numerous hamlets that make up the village, 11 in total: Findrol, Péri, Trolaz, Pouilly, Perzière, La Grangeat, Villy, Lossiège, Perraz, La Perrine and, finally, the main town. Contamine-sur-Arve is the lowest municipality in the Faucigny Glières area and enjoys a good amount of sunshine (it was once called the "Provence of Faucigny"). It is strategically located in the Arve valley between Geneva and Chamonix. This favourable position has allowed the harmonious development of this commune, which has managed to preserve a large part of its rural territory (450 hectares of agricultural land out of a total surface area of 692 hectares, i.e. approximately 65%), while developing economic activity zones that attract many workers and young couples who settle in a village with a rapidly growing population. Other attractions of Contamine-sur-Arve are the CHAL, for Centre Hospitalier Alpes Léman, a public hospital inaugurated in 2013, and the Lycée Professionnel Agricole in the main town, which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2020 and offers training in the livestock sector with 60 dairy cows, the equestrian sector with its new riding school and landscaping.
