40 km from Geneva, Clermont is a village of 7 km2 with barely 500 inhabitants. However, Clermont-en-Genevois, which is its full name, deserves to appear in our guide to the Alps, because the commune is home to a magnificent Renaissance castle, unique in the entire region. The castle of Clermont, built by Gallois Regard from 1575, offers a precious testimony of the influence of the Italian Renaissance on the Savoyard architecture. The village comes alive particularly in summer when the castle hosts many music and theater festivals and a jazz festival. Good inn, gites and bed and breakfast
