Châtel is a pretty, unspoilt village situated at an altitude of 1,200 m, just before the border with Switzerland. Despite its tourist appeal in summer and winter alike, the village has managed to preserve its authenticity, with some 30 working farms. Cows graze in the alpine pastures in summer, producing the milk used to make Abondance cheese, a Chablais A.O.C.. The mountain architecture has been preserved. The resort is linked to the Portes du Soleil ski area via Super Châtel, and promises some great days out in the mountains. Cycling enthusiasts can visit the Bike Park, a mountain area dedicated to downhill mountain biking.
