Sub-prefecture of the Haute-Savoie, capital of the Faucigny-Glières territory, Bonneville (12,500 inhabitants) stretches along both banks of the Arve. Dominated by its imposing 13th century castle, it was once the capital of Faucigny, one of the six provinces of the Duchy of Savoy. In spite of some disasters and a sometimes agitated political life, it remained over the centuries a commercial city, a center of power. Taking advantage of the development of the screw-cutting industry in the 19th century, it experienced a new boom. The demographic growth of the town was particularly strong at the end of the 20th century. To see: its castle, magnificently restored.
