Saint-Paul-lès-Romans borders Romans. The commune, bordered by the Isère, stretches out on either side of the Joyeuse river. The village is home to the remains of a Gallo-Roman villa. Two mosaics, depicting the labors of Hercules and Orpheus, have been unearthed and are on display at the Valence museum. In the center of the village are the (privately-owned) buildings of a former commandery of the Knights of Malta, a refuge for pilgrims on their way to the Holy Land. During the French Revolution, the village was named Paul-la-Joyeuse. Today, agricultural activity continues and the Parc Saint-Paul is home to stores and restaurants.
