On your descent to Romans (13 km) you pass by Saint-Michel-sur-Savasse, 500 inhabitants, which offers magnificent views of the Vercors massif, the Isère plain and the foothills of the Ardèche plateau to the west. The commune extends into a main valley, watered by the Savasse, and two lines of ridges called "feytas", with crops and orchards at the bottom of the valley, meadows on the hillsides and wooded areas on the peaks. The village maintains a dynamic agricultural activity focused on cattle breeding and nut cultivation. Gallo-Roman coins from the 3rd century discovered on the site of the ancient village and near the disappeared castle of Garagnol, suggest that this was the site of the Roman city of Ventia or Solonium. In the 12th century, a Benedictine priory, of which there are still muddled ruins, was established on the left bank of the Savasse. We can see the ruins of the 12th century church destroyed by the Austrians in the 19th century and the former cemetery that used to surround it, but also the contemporary church topped by a statue of the archangel Saint Michael, patron saint of the parish. The village square is the starting point for hiking trails.
