The old hilltop village, severely damaged during the bombardments of 1944 (650 shells were fired by the German and American armies!), was rebuilt in the 1960s and 1970s. From this heap of ruins, new owners brought the houses back to life one by one from 1962 onwards. The ruins of the old village were scattered across the ground, and stones, lintels, mullions and oeil-de-bœuf gradually found their way back into the facades. Restoration was carried out with great care for authenticity. The château is crowned by an original hanging garden. The new village lies on the plain.
