This rural village in the Galaure valley has a population of 1,700 - the Castelneuvois and Caltelneuvoises. It is best known as the birthplace of Marthe Robin (1902-1981). The number of visitors who come to pray at the Plaine farm, where she lived, doubled between 2001 and 2011, and now stands at 40,000 a year. A Foyer de Charité exists in Châteauneuf-de-Galaure to welcome retreatants.
