A few kilometres from Montélimar, Charols has experienced a spectacular expansion: 260 inhabitants in 1975, 900 today. Its bridge over the Roubion, which already existed in Roman times, was used, among others, by Emperor Barbarossa, Francis I and Louis XIII before being the "privileged" witness to the Battle of Montélimar in August 1944. The church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste dates back to the 9th century.
