Built on the hills overlooking the Rhône River, Bourg-lès-Valence follows in the footsteps of Valence to the north. This wasn't always the case, but today the demarcation between the two towns is barely distinguishable. The former village is now a modern city of some 20,000 inhabitants (up from 2,000 in 1800), home to two regional jewels. Its rehabilitated former cartridge factory has become a major center for the moving image industry, with the presence of Folimage studios and other structures in the sector. In the heart of the town, the former episcopal gardens are home to the Domaine du Valentin, a state-of-the-art high school and farm.
