Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, a large town of 2,500 inhabitants located at the entrance to the gorges, is very popular in summer. It is mainly used for tourist services: canoeing, mountain biking, hiking, but also shops of all kinds, restaurants and accommodation. A whole range of services that disappear once the season is over, leaving the village to find its calm. Many geological sights are nearby, including the Chauvet-2 cave (a replica of the original, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and discovered in 1994 on the territory of the commune) and the Pont d'Arc (D290), a 54-metre high arch overhanging the Ardèche.
