It is the small rural and mountain capital of the ten or so villages of the Val d'Ay. If the town is at 480 m altitude, the commune extends from the vineyards at 350 m altitude to the pine forests at 1,200 m. The landscape is marked by agriculture and in particular livestock farming with the presence of vast expanses of meadows bordered by poplars. On the heights, forestry takes over. From here, small roads and hiking trails open up picturesque itineraries and grandiose panoramas. Satillieu seduces by its village life and the presence of small gourmet shops.
