LAVENDER MUSEUM
Petit Futé's opinion on LAVENDER MUSEUM

The museum is housed in the old sheepfold of César Brun, the great-grandfather of the present owners, where his goats and sheep used to graze. It was in the 1940s, and already he was cultivating fields of fine lavender nearby. The oxen helped him in the cultivation, and he harvested with a sickle before selling his crop to a distiller. The plants were then sent to the distillery in Saint Marcel d'Ardèche to produce essential oil. The abandoned sheepfold was bought to become a museum in 2002. In 2015, César's descendants acquired the museum. The circle is thus closed. The museum houses the most important collection of red copper stills from the 16th century to the present day. You will discover everything about lavender, its culture and its benefits by watching two documentaries. The site is sublime, between the fields of lavender, the outcropping stones, the scrubland which offers its scents... At the shop, you can stock up on lavender essence and derivatives but also other local products. You can admire the stills and observe the distillation process to extract the essential oils from the plant. A botanical garden will introduce you to the different types of lavender. And if the children start to get impatient, a few games are waiting for them outside, including a zip line, wooden games and a petanque area. There is also a fun and educational area on bees. Enough to spend a good day!
