Situated on the border of the Rhône, Ardèche and Gard departments, the village marks the end of the gorges and the river route for canoeists coming from Vallon-Pont-d'Arc. Despite the inevitable summer bustle, Saint-Martin remains a charming little town, much quieter than Vallon-Pont d'Arc. The first tourists of the 19th century, curists of Vals-les-Bains, embarked from here to go up the Ardèche and explore the cave of Saint-Marcel-d'Ardèche. Thus Saint-Martin, which became the gateway to the Ardèche gorges, built its reputation and its tourist vocation, which developed from the 1970s.
