Ruoms is one of the villages with the character of the Ardèche and was built overlooking the river Ardèche. Six towers remain from the ramparts that fortified the old village, on the Place de la République and Rue des Tournelles. The old medieval village is not lacking in charm. Ruoms was known for its stone quarries, exploited until the 1960s, and which provided the architects to build the new bridge of Avignon, the high schools of Nimes and Alès, the fountain of Pont-Saint-Esprit or the theater of Montpellier. Ruoms, a lively town all year round, is home to the largest wine cooperative in the Ardèche. The highlight of the year: the Aluna festival at the end of June.
