Village of character, Jaujac is also a major site of Ardèche volcanism. The village takes its name from the ancient lordship of the Jaujac, who lived in the 12th century. Jaujac spreads out in a star shape, around a square with trees and a fountain. Among its three castles, that of Castrevieille (dating from the 13th century), at the entrance of the village, was acquired by the municipality in 1880 from the Count of Antraigues. The castle of Bruget (14th century), located on the road to Roudils, is the cradle of the ancient Bruget family. As for the castle of Rochemure, it houses the headquarters of the Monts d'Ardèche Regional Nature Park.
