Cruas is known for its nuclear power plant with four smoking chimneys, one of which is decorated with this fresco of a child playing with water, clearly visible from the Autoroute du soleil. It would be a pity to reduce this commune to this nuclear equipment shared with the neighboring commune of Meysse. Cruas, the medieval town, lies on the banks of the Rhône, at the foot of the white limestone quarries, where the presence of humans has been proven since the Gallo-Roman era, and boasts an important historical and industrial heritage, while preserving green spaces. The site was chosen and built on the hillside by the monks of the abbey of Cruas as a refuge in case of floods and wars. During the Wars of Religion, the site was besieged three times by the Protestants. Today it is a pleasant little town that welcomes visitors with care. Tourists can visit two museums, the nuclear power plant, and of course the abbey church. Numerous activities and visits are offered throughout the year. Along the Rhone, Cruas is also home to a marina, which gives it a small air of marina. But its jewel remains the magnificent Benedictine abbey dating from the 8th century flanked by the remains of the monks' castle. In the heart of a rural area with hills covered with pine trees, oaks and scrub, Cruas benefits from an interesting situation between Montélimar and Privas, in the Ardèche but facing the Drôme. A strategic and pleasant base camp.
