This commune located on the edge of Alba-la-Romaine, on the south-eastern slope of the Coiron, is home to a charming medieval village. As on a promontory, its basalt houses, staggered down towards the Frayol River, create a beautiful landscape. Surrounded by its medieval ramparts, Aubignas is dominated by a medieval castle, built for its defence, which houses a beautiful 11th century Provençal Romanesque church. Inside the ramparts, we walk through picturesque cobbled alleys and calades thread their way between solid basalt houses. You enter through the feudal gate, which was redesigned and enlarged in the 19th century. You can observe while strolling through the alleys: arches above the streets, windows with "curtain-arched arches", corbelled bread ovens, cross-beam windows, etc. Let us add two round towers on the route of the ramparts. Old farms, with inner courtyards, located in a star-shaped shape around and at the foot of the village, bear witness to the strong development of agriculture and livestock in past centuries. These farms were generally located on springs, in view of the village. Explanatory panels allow you to enjoy the walk to the fullest. In the village: cottages and refreshment bar. It is held by the volunteers of the Pie sur l'Amandier; it is open on public holidays and Sundays in the afternoon, all year round, and in summer, on Saturdays and Sundays in the afternoon. A rural and lively village that is very charming.
