Villieu-Loyes-Mollon is the result of the merger of three villages, of which only Villieu and Loyes have a common past. Indeed, before the French Revolution, Villieu and Loyes were a single parish. Loyes, a small fortified town, was the centre of civil life, and Villieu, thanks to its former priory, remained the centre of parish life. Mollon depended for its part on the abbey of Notre-Dame d'Ambronay. The merger between the three municipalities, initiated in 1971, was not completed until 1994. Today the town has 3,700 inhabitants and owes its economic development to its proximity to Pérouges and, of course, to the region of eastern Lyon.
