Saint-Denis-lès-Bourg (5,800 inhabitants) is located on the western outskirts of Bourg-en-Bresse. The town owes its current reputation to its weekly fair. The latter was created in 1986, when the cattle market was transferred from the heart of Bourg-en-Bresse. This transfer was necessary for security reasons and because the site had become too small. The Foirail de Saint-Denis is the largest livestock market in France, with animals coming from forty departments in eastern France. It welcomes about 2,500 animals every Tuesday (calves, grazers, beef cattle). Access is open to all.
