This castle has a park with many species, sculptures and an aviary.
François-Joseph Troubat, son of Pierre Troubat who founded the Société des cires française in 1872, devoted his fortune to the construction of this astonishing château. He had the central building constructed of dressed stone and pink brick, similar to the facades of the Petit Trianon. He then designed the composition and layout of the park, halfway between French and English gardens. In 1953, the industrialist had two wings added to the château, dedicated to displaying the collection he had gradually amassed. The collection comprises over three thousand paintings, furniture, tapestries, sculptures and objets d'art in all styles, dating back to the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. From the outset, its aim was to build up a heritage and artistic collection, with a view to creating a museum. Among the items on display is a copy of Louis XIV's roll-top desk, while the painting collection features works by masters of the classical age, Aubusson tapestries and copies by Courbet, Boucher and others. In 2003, the château was renovated to bring it up to the highest standards, with fire safety, asbestos removal, electricity and heating. In 1944, Mr. Troubat bequeathed his entire estate to the town of Montluçon. The park is home to numerous tree species, sculptures and an aviary. The adjoining gallery hosts temporary art exhibitions. Children can discover art in all its forms in an interactive and fun way.
