In the heart of the Bresse region, Jayat is part of the Communauté d'agglomération du Bassin de Bourg-en-Bresse. In this beautiful landscape of hedged farmland, visitors can enjoy the facilities of the Plaine Tonique leisure centre. The communal territory is also home to two natural areas of ecological interest, fauna and flora (ZNIEFF) of type 1: the meadows of Jayat, Curtelet and Césille, an area frequented by many birds including the grey heron or the kingfisher of Europe, and the island of Malafretaz. History tells that Henri IV, whose army was bogged down in the local mud, had to spend a night in Jayat at the place called Palais Royal.
