A peaceful village with an irresistible charm which has kept its 14th century fortified enclosure and its two stone doors with bosses, those of Saint-Martin and Puybaret. Of the 12th century castel, only a large section of wall, known as the Marot, continues to watch over the village from its height. Visan became a papal high land in 1344 and was attached to the canton of Valréas in 1802. Today, one can admire on this former stronghold magnificent private mansions, from the Renaissance to the end of the 18th century. The most courageous will climb up to the castle to enjoy a surprisingly beautiful view of the surrounding villages.
