It's a small village on a plain stretching out in front of the Dentelles de Montmirail in the Haut Vaucluse, where the capricious Ouvèze river flows. It was built in the Middle Ages around a priory that was passed from hand to hand for centuries. It wasn't until the 16th century that the great families of the Comtat were forced to build and plant. The result was a Renaissance château. But it was the planting of vines in the 19th century that finally gave the village a boost, producing Côtes-du-Rhône and Plan-de-Dieu crus. Today, it's a place of passage... So you don't necessarily stop here and head for Vaison-la-Romaine or Avignon.
