MARCHÉ DU MARDI MATIN

Market

It's one of Provence's biggest and most beautiful markets. And it's been here for over 500 years. In 1483, a bull from Pope Sixtus IV authorized Vaison-la-Romaine to create it. And it was in 1532 that Pope Clement VII decided on the day: Tuesday morning. The 450 exhibitors (at the height of the season) who take over the town center are a veritable institution! All your senses will be seduced. The accents of the salespeople touting their wares, the smells of spices and lavender, the freshly-picked fruit and vegetables that color the stalls. Place François Cevert is reserved exclusively for local producers, where everything is in season. Flowers and plants fill the Place du 11 Novembre, home to nurseries and garden centers. For enthusiasts, flea market stalls line the Cours Henri Fabre. And then head for the Cours Taulignan, where Nyons olives and olive oils, Baronnies lime blossom and other regional produce will give you ideas for lunch. It's a truly beautiful Provencal market, with arts and crafts from local artists and artisans, seafood and butchers, textiles and hardware... You might just fall for a slice of pissaladière as you stroll along, because that's the only rhythm you'll find here.
