Situated in the north of the department, this town was first named Lurciacus silvestris, translated as Lurcy-le-Sauvage, because of its location in an isolated and heavily wooded area. It seems to have been occupied since the Gallo-Roman period. In the 14th century, the parish had a church and a priory-cure. Later, Lurcy became a small canton capital, before expanding and being attached to the district of Moulins. From the end of the 18th century, the town developed its activities around its glass factory, which then became a porcelain factory, before being transferred to Couleuvre. It remains focused on woodworking and agriculture.
