The name Uchaux, Octavis Uchot, first appears in writing in the 12th century. It is generally agreed that this name of Roman origin must have corresponded to a site numbered by a military milestone, certainly the eighth. But nothing is certain. It was between the 15th and 17th centuries that the village took shape as we know it today. Throughout the centuries, the village's rural vocation continued: vines, cereals, sugar beet and, more recently, industrial crops such as corn, sunflowers, durum wheat and tinned tomatoes. In the mid-19th century, the village had a population of 700. One hundred years later, the population has halved.
