This small commune perched on a hill is overlooked by a (privately-owned) château, built in the 17th century by the Marquis de Mirabeau, ancestor of the turbulent deputy to the Estates General. In 1364, the town was granted a bridge over the Durance River, which enabled it to grow considerably. Attractions include the 13th-century Sainte-Madeleine chapel and the remains of the old suspension bridge. Inside the village: the rampart towers, Saint-Pierre church (13th century), its porches and some beautiful 16th and 17th century houses. Sports enthusiasts can try their hand at climbing the Mirabeau cliff, a site listed by the French Climbing Federation, with 30 routes.
