The village already existed in Roman times under the name of Calvias. Its current name, which means "bad death", appeared with the extermination of the village by the Franks. It is said that after their passage, there was only one survivor, an old woman with her rooster which became the emblem of the village. The Middle Ages were more prosperous. The ramparts had up to 11 towers which were also part of the castle and 3 gates. There are still beautiful monuments and fountains, including the one that has been enthroned in the centre of the square since 1787, decorated with six masks, Notre-Dame-de-Calvias, the wash-house dates from 1771! And don't forget to come at the end of June for the cherry festival
