Located on the left bank of the Rhône, Le Pontet is the interface between the Rhône valley and the Comtat Venaissin For thousands of years, a good part of the territory was covered with stagnant water, silt and covered with daring. In this hostile environment, traces of occupation are rare. The only known ancient vestige is a Roman aqueduct that crossed the area and headed towards Avignon. It survived until the middle of the 19th century and its ruins were called the "Saracen walls". A nephew of Pope Clemént V had a country residence and fortified castle built: the Château de Fargues. Today it is a space dedicated to culture
