A real Provençal crib with its troglodytic houses hung on a rock, which surprises at the end of the village. The ruins of a fortified castle, built in the 11th century by the bishops of Carpentras, overlook the village, of which only a keep and a dwelling remain, which, let us be clear, is private. For the bravest, not afraid to slide, know that a staircase (80 steps) carved into the rock (very worn out) leads to the remains, but you will end up in front of a closed gate. However, you will enjoy a spectacular view in some places. This secular village is best known for the hermitage of Saint-Gens and its pilgrimage, but it nevertheless preserves a rather rich historical heritage. Throughout the year, the legend referring to it attracts many visitors who come to quench their thirst at the miraculous spring that never stops flowing from its rock, even in periods of drought. To see: the two monumental gates, the 12th century church partly restored by the Centre international en métiers d'art du Beaucet, the balms and bories, Robert's Garden (landscaped essay created by Gianni Buratonni and Yves Abrioux). On the Castel Loup square, you will admire under the washhouse, a trompe-l'oeil frescoed by the students of the Ateliers du Beaucet. At 2 km from the village, we strongly advise you to come and visit the hamlet of Saint-Gens, which contains two pretty chapels. One along the path of the Oratories, dedicated to the saint hermit, a fine example of Romanesque art dating back to the 12th century. The other, the Chapel of the Tomb, built at the end of the 17th century on ancient ruins, where the saint's body had originally rested.
