Its name evokes swampy origins. Lapalud's destiny was first linked to the Templars before being linked to the Holy See and the Montaigu-Frémigières family. The village will often be endangered by the proximity of the Rhône. The flood of 1856 destroyed more than one hundred and twenty houses. Of the protective enclosure of the village, only two gates remain. The church of Saint-Pierre-les-Liens, a 13th century Romanesque building with a quadrangular bell tower with ogival openings, is worth a look as well as the street leading to it, lined with beautiful old houses. Lapalud is famous for the brooms that have been made in the village for several decades
