Vaulted passageways, arcades, picturesque streets, large squares shaded by century-old hackberry trees. Goult is a nice break off the beaten track. It takes its name from the d'Agoult family, one of whose members is said to have been raised by wolves. It has a little medieval air with its 13th century castle which has been rebuilt many times and is now privately owned. One climbs the hill to see the windmill and the 12th century church, which only retains its original Romanesque apse and its adjoining Gothic chapel. Two superb viewpoints: from the Place de la Madeleine (view of the Mont Ventoux ) and from the windmill (view of Oppède).
