Gordes, one of France's most beautiful villages, is without doubt the Luberon's most delicate gem. As soon as you arrive in the village, you'll be drawn into a breathtaking picture postcard: dry-stone houses built in restanques, dominated by an imposing Renaissance château. Inside the village, wander through cobbled lanes, winding your way through homes with vaulted ceilings, cellars, ancient doors and gardens. Gordes was a stronghold of the Vordenses, the Celto-Ligurian tribe that gave it its name, with the custom of transforming the initial V into a G (Gordenses) in Gallo-Roman times.
