The Romans called it Jucunditas or Jucundus: "joy and gladness". A name that predestined the village for vine-growing. Until the middle of the 20th century, the town was mainly known for its olive groves. However, the severe frosts of 1929 and 1956 destroyed much of it. Farmers had the good sense to return to growing vines on all the hillsides in the early 1960s. Ten years later, they obtained the Côtes-du-Rhône Villages appellation, and since then, more than five million bottles of this renowned cru have been sold by these 200 winegrowers.
