Between the mounts of Vaucluse and the Petit Lubéron, the village is enthroned. In the 19th century, Gargas launched into the ochre industry; today, the commune can pride itself on being the last village in Europe where ochre is still exploited. There are beautiful cliffs in the surrounding area. To the north, the hill of Perréal (470 m) is a pleasant place to hike; archaeological excavations have uncovered a habitat of Gallo-Roman times. At its summit - a former Gallic oppidum - stands the chapel of Sainte-Radegonde (mid 16th century). The GR6 runs through the village and its hamlets to reach Roussillon through a picturesque ochre landscape.
