Here, nature provides a splendid backdrop, nicknamed the "Comtadin amphitheater". Caromb enjoys an extraordinary panorama, with Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail in the background. Its name seems to derive from the Celtic "Car" (stone) and the Roman "Umbo" (mound), but Provençal also says "quairoun" (large stone). Bertrand des Baux, one of the Princes of Orange, delimited the town's territory in the 13th century, and Pope Jean XXII introduced truffles in the 14th century. Étienne de Vesc, advisor to Louis XI, then minister to Charles VIII, bought the Seigneurie in 1484 and made it the most important town in the Comtat.
