The Greeks, then the Romans, were the first to occupy the Carami valley. Numerous barbarian and Saracen invasions then forced the occupants to take refuge at the top of the Sainte-Suzanne hill which dominates the Carami valley to the north. A fortress, the Castrum Vincinis, was erected there in 1060. In 1471, the hilltop village was completely evacuated and about twenty families settled in the plain, near the river, where a new village Vincinis was founded in 1511. The castle, built in 1543, was kept intact until 1930 before being vandalized and abandoned, then renovated by a private owner.
