Petit Futé's opinion on NOTRE-DAME-DE-PITIÉ CHAPEL

Vintage plate 2020

The final point of the Oratories climb, the Notre-Dame-de-Pitié chapel was built in 1560 by the inhabitants, many of whom were fishermen from Saint-Nazaire. Originally, only one hermit lived there and he rang the bell in case of bad weather to help the boats returning to the port. The chapel now houses a beautiful 17th century polychrome wooden pedestal and many ex-voto of fishermen or sailors who have escaped death after having implored its protection.

visite sanary
