A small trading post created by the Greeks, before becoming Roman, the village belonged to the monks of Lérins who fortified it and gave it the name of Maxime, a nun who died in 750 and who is celebrated every year on 14 and 15 May, during a great blue and white votive festival. In the 7th century, to escape the Saracens, the inhabitants withdrew to the heights and fortified the villages of Gassin, Ramatuelle, Cogolin, Grimaud and also the Vieux-Revest which was completely destroyed in 1395 by brigands. The first pier, built in 1748, allowed the development of the transit of freight, wood, cork, wine, oil, and other products of the Moors.
