Located at the foot of the Sainte-Baume, about thirty kilometres from Marseille, this charming village with its sixteen fountains was once famous for its pottery and ceramic industry, where there were up to twenty-four factories. The operetta singer Reda Caire, star of the 1950s, is buried in the small cemetery. Louis-Auguste Cézanne, the father of the painter Paul Cézanne, was born here. The weekly market is held on Wednesday morning on the Cours Marceau. Saint-Zacharie is one of the pretty and charming villages of the green Provence, a region that is definitely not as well known as the Var coastline, which is much more popular than the interior.
