Le Theil, with less than 400 inhabitants, is a small village off the D46 linking Voussac to Saint-Pourçin-sur-Sioule. Its name comes from the old French "theil" or "thil" and the Latin "tilius" which means "lime tree". Seat of a lordship in medieval times, the fief of Theil depended on the castellany of Verneuil and the diocese of Bourges. From its past, the town has retained some buildings or notable buildings. Among them, its church, which has undergone few changes since its construction in the 11th century, and two castles: the castle of Fontariol (15th century) and the castle of Max (13th century). The latter is a guest house.
