Perched at an altitude of 364 m, Montauroux was only a military stronghold in the 11th century. It is in the 13th century that a village was established on the hill. The famous battle of Montauroux took place here in 1592 between the army of Henri IV and the troops of the Duke of Savoy. From this period remains a set of charming little streets. The town hall, with its campanile dating from 1878, is a rare architectural curiosity. During your visit, linger over the 16th century priory, or the rue des Marchands, the first street of the village with its troglodyte houses. Finally, the nearby Saint-Cassien lake is a cool asset.
