Sitting on its schistose spur, the village of Les Mayons has not changed much since the days of coalmines and miners. The only monument of this small village, nestled in the middle of the Moorish forest, is the "grandfather chestnut tree", a venerable tree planted in the Middle Ages. The chestnut is still celebrated every year at the end of October during the eponymous festival.
