The resort's expansion at the end of the 19th century was mainly due to the construction of the Provence railway line, which linked Toulon to Saint-Raphaël. Le Rayol-Canadel became a preferred location for wealthy owners, who built luxurious villas until the 1930s. Some of these villas still stand as a reminder of the splendor of that era. The beach at Canadel, now a peaceful bathing area, was one of the sites of the Provence landings on August 14, 1944. You can also visit the Domaine du Rayol, a 20-hectare protected natural area owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral.
