At the foot of the Massif des Maures, leaning against the red soil of La Roquette, this village is known as the land of the flying donkey, a singular legend that goes back more than two centuries. From the 19th century onwards, Gonfaron experienced a certain industrial development. The village became an active centre for the manufacture of cork stoppers, which came from the nearby subéraies des Maures. During its golden age, Gonfaron had ten cork workshops, employing nearly nine hundred workers. The weekly market takes place every Thursday morning in the Place de la Victoire.
